MRS. CARPENTER IS NAMED BEST HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN JP

Superintendent Dr. James Meza was on hand at Riverdale for the 2nd time in a month to award one of our own. Riverdale principal Denise Carpenter was named by her fellow high school principals as the 2011-2012 principal of the year. This is Carpenter's fourth year at the helm at RHS and will see her first four year group of student graduate this May. Since taking over test scores, school activities and the overall atmosphere has improved.

Riverdale senior Devin Daniels has been named the Jefferson Parish Public Schools Student of the year. Daniels is a full diploma IBO student who is very involved at Riverdale. He is the lead director and entertainment host for the WRHS newsteam. He is also the secretary of the Riverdale Student Body Association. During his tenure at RHS he has won numerous awards including best video in the 2010 LaCue contest, best music video in the SCAF video fest and was first place in the Jefferson Parish Media Fair. Devin also finds time to work after school and is a member of the National Honor Society. Congratulations Devin!!!
Rebels Represent at LASC Convention
This years' LASC theme was Destination Leadership and 10 Riverdale Student Body Association members represented RHS. Five of the ten students were members of the LASC Staff- Seniors Anthony Cannata, Alexis Carney, Devin Daniels, Brian Horton, and Anthony Pham. Senior Emily Forcha sat on the Skit Preview Committee while Junior Alex Simmons sat on the Executive Board Tabulating Committee. Senior Raquel Scott, Senior Lauren Junkin, and Junior Raven Vicknair were also in attendance.
Riverdale SBA snags 1st place trophy
With the help of Art Teacher Kimberly Robinson, the Rebels won 1st place in the State Poster Competition at the 2012 LASC Convention, January 14, 15, 16. The Rebel Student Council competed against 102 schools from Louisiana. The poster needed to reflect the theme: A RECIPE FOR LEADERSHIP. Judging was based on originality of theme (30%); creativity (30%); neatness (15%); visual appeal (25%).
ART PROGRAM AWARDED
Two IB art students won awards in the Cox Cable Art Contest, held at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Ahki Jackson won 3rd place in his division, and $300, and Alexandra Rosenzweig won 2nd place in her division, and $500. Both students' artworks will hang at NOMA for a month. Ahki and Alexandra are both Talent Art, and IB Art students. This is a huge honor for these students, and Riverdale. Congratulations to these wonderful artists, Ahki and Alex. Thanks for representing RHS so well!
ART PROGRAM REWARDED
The RHS Art Department has just received $2,000.00 worth of art supplies! These supplies were donated from the George Rodrigue Foundation, after Ms. Robinson wrote a grant request for supply funding. Mr. Rodrigue, of Blue Dog fame, is noted for his support of the arts in education. Look for amazing new student artwork, coming soon to a hallway near you!"
